2 Very Useful WordPress Plugins

For the last 2 weeks I’ve been deep into the process of setting up a variety of new membership sites using WishList Member.

Whenever I’m setting up a new blog or membership using WordPress, I inevitably end up searching for some new plugins that will either provide me some additional functionality and/or help make the setup easier and faster.

As a result of the last few sites I’ve been working on, I came across 2 WordPress plugins I think you’ll like…

1) Post Mash – This gives you the ability to quickly reorder your posts. So instead of having them display in reverse chronological order (which is the WordPress default), you can mix it up based on your preferences.

You can download it from here:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/postmash/

2) WP Menu Creator – With this plugin you can quickly create your own navigation menu using links to pages, posts, categories and even tags. WooThemes has added similar functionality into their themes but this plugin will allow you to do the same thing even if you aren’t using a WooTheme.

Enjoy!

WARNING:  As with any WordPress plugin, it’s important that you always be aware that there could be conflicts and/or outdated versions.  So always check you are downloading the latest version of the plugin and that it is compatible with your version of WordPress.

What WordPress plugins do  you like using?

  1. Thanks, Stuart. I’m going to have to check out that first one.

OK. I admit it. I’m a plugin fiend. I have too many plugins, but they do such neat stuff. I just can’t help it.

There are so many that I like I can’t list them all here. I’m going to have to show you instead of tell you.

Here’s a page that I created (using a plugin actually) that lists all my plugins.

The Inactive ones at the bottom I plan to try out/integrate later.

  2. Good stuff, Stu!

I’ve been using postMash for some time, and a related plugin, pageMash… which lets you reorder your Pages without having to resort to the clumsy order codes. Very handy.

  3. Thanks for always sharing the latest & greatest, Stu. I always check ‘em out, just wish I had more time to play. ;o)

  4. Thank you, Stu. I love and use WooThemes, thanks to you and these plugins are excellent for my other WP sites! I put your link for this post on Productivity Strategies Fan Page too, since many of YOUR fans hang out there as well. :)

  5. Thanks Stu for sharing your plugins.I have to check one of them.

  6. Very cool Stu. And thanks Scott for posting your detailed list.

Stu, with regards to your Wishlist Member plugin, I am wondering if there is support for the following.

I want to create an online coaching/training site in which not only may there be the different membership levels that members may belong to, but I also want to be able to have an individual dialog page with each member. So, when that member logins in, they can click on a page or link and see any personal instructions or feedback that I may wish to leave for them about their individual progress, etc. They should be able to ask me questions or post results or answers to questions that I ask. Basically, it would be like a private thread (or blog page with replies) between the coach (site admin) and each individual member.

So, if this type of functionality is available in Wishlist Member or if anyone knows of an additional plug-in that could accomplish this creation of a personal dashboard/thread page for each member (not just membership level), I’d love to hear about it.

    • Hi Stu,
I was hoping you might respond to my previous inquiry about a plug-in feature.

      -Jeff

    • I don’t personally know of any plugins that will allow you to have the one-on-one conversation/instructions you are looking to have with your individual members.

However, if you have less than 30 members (say it’s a high level coaching program), then I would just create a membership level specific to each person.

Then you can begin doing all the customization you want.

      All the best.

      Stu

      • Thanks for the reply Stu.
I do see how creating a separate level for each member might be an option if the membership is fairly small. But, this application which involves personal fitness training will likely involve over 100 members fairly quickly.

So, my concern is starting with an approach that may initially work when there are 25 members, but then needs to be replaced by some other solution once it grows much beyond that.

With all of the personal coaching / training and virtual courses being offered, I imagine there must be a solution tailored to this exact need, but so far it’s been difficult to find. If anyone is aware of something (even outside of Wordpress) I’d be very appreciative.

        -Jeff

  7. Stu,

Thanks for the heads up. Very useful tip.

    Robert

  8. Thanks so much Stu. Great ideas

  9. Hey Stu,

Thanks for the links and the plug-in tips. I sometimes forget about the conflicts with these puppies.

    You the man!

p.s. Scott thanks to you also for sharing

  10. Hi Stu

I liked your site design so much that I stole most of it.

I noticed (while I copi… got inspiration from your site) that you have all internal links nofollowed. And that this page is meta tagged as noindex, nofollow.

Did you accidentally hit the “hide me from Google” button in wordpress or is it just an advanced SEO strategy? :)

    Simon
