Business Blind Spots

Sometimes I come across things in business and smack my head in disbelief that something so obvious would go unnoticed (I’ll share a recent example in a minute).

The truth of the matter is, most small business owners have fallen victim to these types of things which I call “Business Blind Spots”.

You probably know what I’m talking about…

They are poor judgments, mistakes or blunders that seem blatantly obvious to someone outside of the company but to someone who’s running it, they go unnoticed.

Here’s an example of one I found at the Orlando airport…

What were they thinking?

Do you see what I’m talking about?

The company name is “Yellow Cab Co.” and yet the cabs are painted “orange”.

Duh!

Can you imagine the conversation when someone calls them to catch a cab…

———————————————

OPERATOR:  “Yellow Cab Co., how may I help you?”

CUSTOMER:  “Yes I’d like to get a cab to XYZ address.”

OPERATOR:  “No problem sir, we’ll send one right away.  Just look for the orange cars with “Yellow Cab Co.” on the side”

———————————————

Now this may seem obvious to us on the outside but small business owners make these kinds of mistakes all the time.  This is what I mean when I say that they are “business blind spots”.

We don’t see them but to people outside of our company, they are obvious.

So as entrepreneurs, how can we make ourselves aware of these kinds of things?

There is one solution that has been around for years and years and has proven time and time again to be one of the most effective methods for eliminating these types of blind spots.

When I discovered this solution, I bought into it multiple times.

You ready?

Join or create a MASTERMIND GROUP.

When you are part of a group of high level business owners who all help each other identify weak spots in each person’s business, these blind spots become obvious VERY quickly.

However, the best part about that is not only identifying the blind spots but then getting suggestions on how to fix it.

There is nothing more powerful than having a group of intelligent people all focused on improving your business.

That’s the reason I belong to 2 different mastermind groups (one I paid $16,000 to be a part of).

The feedback and advice has made a tremendous impact on my business which is why I recommend finding or creating one for yourself.

Let’s face it, we all have blind spots in our business but unless you surround yourself with a group of people willing to tell you what they are, there’s a good chance someone could be blogging about your business in the future and telling everyone about them!

If you are looking to join a mastermind, you might want to check out the Internet Marketing Mastermind.  The two people organizing it are close friends and brilliant marketers.  Click the link above and you’ll see an example of what I mean.

In the meantime, let me know about any “Business Blind Spots” you may have come across.  Like the “Yellow Cab Co.”, I’m sure you’ve witnessed some yourself so share them with us by leaving your comments below.

Thanks Stu for the reminder!

We belong to a mastermind group to cover each others “blind spots”. We are also careful to make sure we have included each of the personality types in the group as we have found that if we include just those with our same personality type we simply reinforce what we have already been doing. It is important to include those that are like us, AND those that have a different viewpoint.

@Matt - you make a VERY good point regarding the selection of a mastermind group.

I’ve found it beneficial when there is someone to lead the group and when there is a diverse group of people with different backgrounds and ideas.
