Lessons From Dan Kennedy’s Info Summitt
I bet you’ll be able to relate to this…
However before I get into the rest of this message I want to let you know that I’ve listed my top 3 lessons from my recent trip to Dan Kennedy’s Info Summit (definitely worth the read).
Yesterday I was working away and started thinking to myself, where did October go?
Then I realized that we are almost through November!
The old saying goes, time flies when you’re having fun but I have a slight modification to add.
Time flies when business is booming!
4 marketing seminars in 2 months is a lot (and I have another one coming up which I’ll tell you about in a second).
Here’s the interesting part…
I’m a sucker.
Yup, a sucker.
I mean, even though I was speaking at some of these events I always get drawn into the room to listen to the other speakers.
I don’t know about you but I always seem to pick up one or two dynamite ideas no matter who is on stage.
I’m just a sucker for hot ideas!
Well recently at the Dan Kennedy Info Summit, I picked up a lot of dynamite ideas (read below to find out how you can attend their next event for less than $50).
*********************************************
Here are my top three takeaways:
*********************************************
The first one I’m a little reluctant to share because although it may seem obvious, a lot of people are still not applying the lesson (me included).
Lesson 1: They don’t want education… what they really want are the tools.
Bill Glazer shared this statement during one of his presentations and it struck me for a reason. Although it may seem like a no brainer, ask yourself one question…
“Are you giving people more to learn or are you making their lives easier by helping them implement?”
Powerful question isn’t it?
We are all inundated with new materials to learn (and I don’t recommend you ever stop learning) but at some point we all need to implement.
That sets the stage for anyone providing the solution to help people implement what they’ve learned.
Here was my “To-Do” after I wrote this down:
Focus more energy on helping people implement and review existing products. Make changes accordingly starting with Project X (project name not revealed because I will be releasing it soon) and make it easier to take action.
The next lesson is embarrassing for me to share because I hardly ever implement this (and it’s SO important).
Lesson 2: Little things do mean a lot.
This was given by Brian Kurtz who has been one of the main reasons publishing giant Boardroom Inc. has gone from a 5 million dollar business to a 100 million dollar business.
What he was referring to here was the old art form of…
TESTING!
This is where I start to get embarrassed…
Unfortunately I do very little testing in my business - well at least not the kind I should be.
Brian explained that at Boardroom they test everything and they continue to test - even the smallest little elements like a color change, or font size.
I had to laugh at myself when I reflected on this because I think part of the reason I haven’t done a lot of testing is because I get bored.
Can you relate?
I mean once I finish a project I’m on to the next one.
However, that also means I’m leaving A LOT of money on the table because he shared with us the impact that one of these “little changes” can have.
We’re talking hundreds of thousands of dollars (even millions in some cases).
And truth be told, I witnessed this recently with one of my clients. We made one slight change to the offer and…
WHAMO…
The sales went through the roof!
Sales were good before (enough to make one complacent) but after the change, it was a whole new ball game. That one change has been easily responsible for doubling, even tripling the bottom line of our clients promotional efforts.
Here was my “To-Do” after I wrote down this lesson:
Start testing!
Begin testing current products I am selling and test the obvious - headlines, sub headlines, guarantees, price, bullets and positioning of testimonials.
Now the third lesson came from Rich Schefren’s presentation and it demonstrates the point that no matter how many times you hear the same information, you can always pick up something new.
I’m in his $5,000 coaching program so I’ve already heard him teach this but for some reason it rang differently this time around.
Lesson 3: Know the difference between “Productive Time” and “Super Productive Time”.
Be honest with yourself…
How much of your time that you dedicate to building your business would be classified as “Productive Time”?
Most of us get sucked into the daily grind of doing what needs to get done in order to keep things moving.
However, keeping things moving and preparing to grow are two completely different things.
This has definitely been a focus for me in my business over the last 4-6 months but something became obvious to me when Rich shared his chart outlining the difference between “Productive Time” and “Super Productive Time”.
I’ll give you the brief synopsis here:
Productive Time (PT)
Super Productive Time (SPT)
Creating Products (PT)
Creating Systems That Create Products (SPT)
Marketing Products (PT)
Creating Systems That Market Products (SPT)
Creating Scale (PT)
Creating Systems That Build Scale (SPT)
Do you see the difference?
One is dependant on YOU always doing the work and the other allows your business to grow without being dependant on you.
BIG difference!
Here was my “To-Do” after I wrote this down:
Spend 1 hour a week building a new “system” for a task that would normally be dependant on me.
It could be systems for things like invoicing, bookkeeping, creating new products, managing JV’s, testing, researching, distributing articles ect.
As you can see, these were 3 of the lessons from the over
76+ pages of notes I gathered at this particular event.
Lots of great stuff.
I’m anticipating that I’ll have even more weapons to add to my arsenal after December 2nd, 2006.
That’s when I’ll be attending another Dan Kennedy event.
This one is particularly special for a number of reasons.
First and foremost, it’s the last time that legendary Zig Ziglar and Dan Kennedy will be speaking on the same platform together.
With all the seminars that I’ve attended, I have never seen Zig Ziglar live. He’s truly one of the “Greats” in sales AND motivational speaking.
Truthfully, he’s the number one reason I’m going because it’s extremely rare to see him and Dan Kennedy presenting in the same seminar along with all the other great speakers.
The second reason I’m attending is I was able to get in to the seminar for less than $50.
Yup… 2-Day seminar with these legends for less than $50.
In fact, I ordered my ticket almost 3 months ago!
Originally their room size would only hold a certain number of people but when they had over 1,200 people register they quickly called the hotel to make other arrangements.
So, if you’d like to join me at this event, I managed to get my hands on 100 tickets reserved in my name (that’s one of the advantages of having Bill Glazer and Dan Kennedy as a client!).
The only catch is you need to go through this special link:
>>> http://www.myideaguy.com/go?VIPticket
My advice is to grab your ticket soon because not only will they disappear quickly but time is also running out to secure hotel rooms.
As you can imagine with over 1,200 people originally registering, the hotel will fill up quickly.
The good news is I know they still have a few rooms left because in preparing for my upcoming trips I realized that I had not booked my room yet!
Well as of two days ago, they still had space.

Hopefully I’ll see you there!
