My Marketing Mistake

The year was 2004.

I had just finished my very first product and I was beaming from ear to ear.

The next step was to actually “sell it”.

But how?

Well I had heard about this thing called “Google Adwords”.

“It’s super simple” they said.

“Just a couple clicks and then WHAMO… tons of traffic to your site.”

Sounds easy right?

I thought so and so I jumped right in.

Sure enough, it only took a couple clicks and I was all setup and ready to go.

Then I “flipped the switch”.

Hahahaha… I can still remember waiting in anticipation for all this traffic (and sales).

But everytime I “refreshed” my stats, there was only one number that seemed to be going up (and that was the amount of money I was spending!).

“This can’t be right” I said to myself.

So what did I do?

Refresh.

Refresh.

Refresh.

Same result.

“Ahhh.. it’s probably just the time of day.  I’ll leave it overnight and I’m sure when I wake up in the morning everything will be fine and my Inbox will be full of sales”.

So off to bed I went.

Long story short, I convinced myself to wait at least a week before changing anything.

BIG MISTAKE!

By the end of the week I had racked up over $923 worth of Adwords Advertising charges.

However, there was one good thing that came from this…

I DID make some sales :)

Sorry I should be more specific…

I made ONE sale :(

It was for $9.97.

So I spent $923 and made $9.97.

Not good.

But all my colleagues were swearing by this Adwords thing telling me how great it was and that they were making a killing with it.

What was I doing wrong?

This video explains it (click below to watch):

Don’t do this otherwise you could make the same mistake I did (and it could cost you like it did me).

Watch this video and learn from my mistake.
