What Idea Do You Like Best?
Picking a name for a new product is tough but when you’ve been given over 400+ good suggestions… narrowing it down to 5 finalists is REALLY tough! That’s what happened recently when we were given hundreds of “name” ideas for our new membership website - over 127 people participated with an average of 4-8 ideas each!
We found it extremely difficult to narrow it down to 5 finalists so we picked 10
Now we need your help and your vote…
Before you vote, here is some background on the membership site:
1) The target market for this membership is online business owners
2) Each month, members will be provided a collection of cutting edge Web 2.0 tools (that are free or nearly free) to help them make more money, save time and increase productivity in their daily business activities.
3) In addition to the tools, we’ll also provide brief, straight-to-the point summaries (written and video) demonstrating exactly what the tool is and how to use it in your business.
It really is an awesome membership with tremendous value.
So with that in mind, now is when we need your vote. Please select one of the finalists below and then hit the “Vote” button.

If you’d like to add your comments you can also do that as well by scrolling down to the “comments” section at the bottom of this post
Let us know why you think a certain name is better than others.
Is it because of it’s marketability?
It’s appeal?
The way it sounds?
We want your feedback!
The last thing to remember is that the voting period will end on Sunday (May 27th) at 11:59pm EST. Then next week we’ll announce the winner and award the grand prize to our “Name Champion”
Thanks again for your help.

Hi Stu,
My Idea Tool Box is best because it assumes ownership by the reader, “Idea” is imperative to have on anything “Stu-esque.” Tool Box tells you you’re going to have everything you need available! It’s an excellent name!
Best wishes,
Kelly

Thanks Kelly!
I appreciate your thoughts - especially the comment on making the name “Stu-esque”
So far it looks to be a tight race between your vote “MyIdeaToolBox” and “Secret Business Tools”.
It should get interesting.
Take care.

Stu, I think you’ve stacked the odds by giving away which names are in the lead. This often changes people’s opinions and leads them to vote that way. I won’t tell you what I voted for (for obvious reasons!) but I believe it described the site and the service appropriately, and that’s what you need.

Hey Stu,
No disrespect to all the folks who submitted their ideas, but the final ten look kinda like what GoDaddy offers you after the domain name you’re looking for is unavailable.
In other words, all of the top ten finalists are…forgettable. Don’t get me wrong, but with so many sites springing up every day, it seems to me like you need something that…POPS!
You know, like those high-end New York ad agencies put together.
How about: “The Marketer’s Edge - Web 2.0 and Beyond”
Which implies several things that the others do not - an edge for the MARKETER (not just leading edge tools, as in #2, which is my favorite of the bunch) and the implied focus on Web 2.0, which is synonymous with all things cutting edge. Adding “and beyond” implies the promise of being there for the long haul.
For the domain name, you could just go with MarketersEdge or TheMarketersEdge if they are available (probably not). Even if they’re not available, I still think your site name should be as above and your domain name as close as possible.
If not this (I’m not that arrogant (

To tell you the truth,
I don’t like any of the names that your team
picked. Your domain and web site name
should have highly targeted keywords
matching to your product.
If you were to use the names you guys
picked as a ppc ad
the ad would fail
against others.
You guys can
do better than
that come on now

Cheryl - that’s an interesting point you gave regarding showing the results. I figured that since the vote was anonymous (we only track IP address to prevent the same person from voting numerous times) it wouldn’t be a problem.
However, I never considered the social influence of visually seeing the results and the effect it would have on someone’s decision - that’s definitely something to consider for next time.
Russ and Temogen - you both make good points regarding the name but I think there are always going to be people who don’t like the names.
I do like the tag line you gave Russ. I agree with you that it adds some pop. The challenge is finding domain names that work with a product name. I checked on both the suggestions you gave and they were both taken.
Temogen - I personally think there are a few names that are keyword targeted since the main keywords I’ll be going for are things like “marketing tools”, “business tools”, “web tools”, etc.
With that said, couldn’t I just register a separate domain name for my PPC campaigns?
That would solve that problem wouldn’t it?
Anyway, thanks for your thoughts.
Take care.

I like My Web Tool Guy, because it relates to My Idea Guy. It conveys the idea that once you know about Stu, you know that he’s the “go-to guy” for marketing and web-related information!
I also like My Idea Tool Box. Ideas and the tools you need to implement them are what it’s all about.
I agree with Russgu3 that the other names are forgettable and generic.

I’d like to amend my previous comment. I really like parts of several of the names suggested. Maybe you could have multiple winners, and combine the favorite entries into one really great name that utilizes the keywords you want to emphasize.

Hi Stu,
Glad I made you stop and think. Sometimes we just need things to be pointed out to guide us toward information.
I was going to submit a name for your site, and did come up with something. And I nearly did submit it, but decided instead to buy it for myself! Sorry - it was just too good to pass on. (lol)
Maybe next time….
